Recent legislation has led to valuable progress in the education of those with special needs. While children with special needs are now guaranteed a “free and appropriate public education” through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (1997), the recent push for inclusion, along with the resurgence of larger class sizes, has led to a decrease in the amount of individualized attention the ‘included’ children with special needs often require.  We initiated our Foundations4Learning Tutorial Program in 2005 to help meet this educational need.

Tutorial sessions focus on:
 Skills taught in the classroom

 Subjects covered on standardized tests

 Goals identified in Individualized

     Education Plans (IEPs)

Areas of difficulty identified by the student,
     teachers, and parents

In 2008, we transitioned this program from home-based to school-based, and from our board members providing services to students from local colleges. Since then, over 200 students have been served, and every student who has participated has demonstrated:

 Improvement on their homework assignments

Better grades on their report cards

 Better standardized test scores

With the extra assistance our tutorial program provides, we will continue to help improve the classroom performance and educational outcomes, of all our enrolled children.

We are currently looking for volunteers and local collaborations to make this program a success. If you are interested in becoming involved as a tutor or sponsor, complete our contact form.

We are able to provide programs and services for kids with special needs because of YOU!
